Alloy - A substance having metallic properties and composed of two or more chemical elements of which at least one is metal.
Core - A preformed aggregate or collapsible insert placed in a mold to shape the interior or that part of a casting which cannot be shaped by the pattern.
Core Binders - Any material, liquid or solid, which is used to bind core aggregates.
Corebox - A (wood, metal, or plastic) structure, the cavity of which has the shape of the desired core which is to be made therein.
Crucible - A container used for the melting, holding, and pouring of metal.
Dross - Metal oxides and/or foreign matter which accumulates on the surface of nonferrous molten metal.
Flask - A container, without top or bottom, used to contain the sand or other media while it is being formed. It is made in two or more parts, the lower part called the drag and the upper part called the cope. Intermediate sections, if any, are called cheeks.
Ladle - A vessel used for transporting and/or pouring molten metal.
Mold - The form which contains the cavity into which molten metal is poured to produce a casting of definite shape and outline.
Molding Machine - A machine for compacting molding media (usually sand) about the pattern(s), thus forming the mold.
Moving Frame - That part of a molding machine which supports the flask and imparts the motions necessary to the molding process.
Pouring - The final transfer of molten metal before its solidification into its intended form.
Reverb furnace - A shallow bath furnace for melting metal in which the bath is heated by the combustion of hot gases over the surface of the metal and by radiation from the roof.
